Whistler – All Classic Singletrack 

The final day of BC Bike Race begins and ends at Whistler Creekside!! Expect a climb up Whistler Highlands to the doubletrack climb for close to 300m of vertical underneath the Creekside Gondola. Thus begins your epic journey through some of Whistler’s first and original singletrack trails. You’ll see many of the best and put in some serious climbing efforts to boot!

A world-renowned destination for first-class skiing and mountain biking, Whistler Village is tucked at the base of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Whistler Creekside is a thriving, vibrant alternative to the Whistler Village experience. Amazing restaurants and quaint shops tempt you when you’re not taking advantage of the spectacular terrain in the area. What a finish to 7 epic days!

First Day in NZ

Huzzah! I’ve finally made it. Well, actually, I’ve already been in NZ for over a day now, but am only now finally getting a chance to write up a little post about it. My flight yesterday went very smoothly, not a single complaint from me. I was supposed to be picked up at the airport by Greg’s brother Kevin, so wanted to make sure I got through customs quickly and efficiently. As my last post mentioned, NZ is very tough on their biosecurity measures, so I wasn’t sure that things would go all that smoothly upon entry. However, my fears were laid to rest, and I actually made it through in record time. I actually think it was one of my fastest customs checks of my life, especially considering all the gear I had. I was also blown away by how quickly my bike made it to me in the luggage area. I had barely gotten my duffle off the conveyor belt when a side door opened up, and a fellow rolled in the box. Sweet. Anyway, read on for the rest of the past 24 hours excitement.

Glancing Back

Welcome to the second last day of race coverage for the 2009 BC Bike Race. This would be our second and final day on the Sunshine Coast in BC. Normally I would be waking up with a slight hangover, given that it was July 2nd. However, as a result of this race, my 1st of July traditions were put on hold. I had work to do, and celebrating would have to wait until the end of the week in Whistler. In all honesty, I think the decision not to have any beer the night before was the best decision, given that we’d had such a long day in Stage 4, and with all the travel, I was beat. A decent night’s rest was the best perscription for success on Stage 5. Of course, even a super rest probably wouldn’t elevate Carl and I to the podium or anything like that, but I just wanted to feel strong and ride hard all day. It’d been a great week of riding so far, with plenty of challenges, and I’d been growing as a rider with each day and each pedal stroke, so I was excited for another day of riding. It also helped that we could wake up and walk to the start line, rather than need to be bussed somewhere else.
