Oh yeah, that guy. I forgot to even mention him in the post. That's why my posts end up so long, as that I try to add all the colour. How could I have forgotten that? We nearly biked right into the stream of urine! Anyway, not surprising the car didn't see me either, since I had taken a completely different route ;-)

At the ferry I was asking people if they knew if a second group had formed or if anybody noticed anyone missing. Nobody, even the organizers and the guy who drove the car to ferry along the same route as the riders, had a clue. Unlike Steve, I have no AR skills, losing the group would have been suicide!

I still got dropped with about 20k to go. Luckily for me, the pisser (earlier in the ride this guy whips it out in the middle of the group to take a leak while still on the bike) got a flat. Eight people stopped for him then we pacelined it in together.

Agreed, it wasn't what was advertised on the website. Pretty hardcore bunch of riders. Including Steve and I, there were about 5 people who weren't wearing jerseys showing their respective bike club/racing team. Next year's goal - finish with the main bunch!

Just kidding! From the sounds of things I would have struggled if I had been on the tour as planned. I can't say I'm glad I missed it, since it would have been an interesting experience, but at least I didn't suffer. :) I'd like to try one of these types of events in the future sometime for sure.

I'm excited for her to get back though, so that we can both go paddling. I just picked it up a couple days before her departure.

You should "own" your own video/audio presence. It's easy to host here directly, even if "only" through embedded (check the Video CCK module .. NOT the Video module). Record your stuff, post to Blip.TV and YouTube, and then embed it in a post here. Why Blip? Because it keeps the "high quality" original rather than only flash. Why YouTube? Because that is where the video community is, and it will drive traffic. Add extended content, links, etc. through blog posts here, and treat them as the "permalinks" for your posts.

Geofencing? I had heard rumours of this when I was at the Olympics in Torino, Italy. This is smack dab next to Net Neutrality. The Internet *will* route around the "damage" that is geofencing.

Also, it is ONLY useful for "destinations" (i.e. only one place to get content from, and people drive to the homepage URL to look at that content -- e.g. YouTube for example). The vast majority of people use search engines to end up at web pages. Geofencing will reduce search engine relevance for those portals that use it, thus causing them to drop off the popular web.

Of course, lots of people still keep trying the old DRM trick as well, but I have to think that eventually people banging heads against walls will make them stop trying....

And I didn't even go into detail why you should forget BlogTV. There are a billion social networks....well...that's a longer post. And Canadian focus for web startups is an interesting concept :P

Sounds like a great idea Steve! While I'm not sure that a live video podcast from NZ would work well for most of us (since you'd be halfway around the world), I think a video podcast would be ultra-cool! You could get edit in some cool footage of where you were/are that day and we'd really be able to get a feel for what you're up to. If you're saying that you can host these videos on blogtv.ca - that's a good thing cause good old haggaret.com just doesn't have the space or bandwidth to start streaming video. :)

Nope, that was all sorted out! I actually got an email from her while in Dominican, and we sorted it all out :-). I actually did call her house that day and left a message with her room-mate, but I don't think she got it! She wasn't pissed, just glad that I was ok. We've sinced raced together... more on that in a future post. (Damn I'm way behind in posts!!)

Not quite Steve - helps if they know who you are. That being said, I certainly wouldn't rule them out if you're shopping for a bike. In fact I nearly bought a bike there last year, they just didn't have my size when I wanted it.
