Hey kids! Got another little race to write about for you all. On October 17th I got to take part in the 5 Peaks Trail Race taking place at the Ark, Mike Caldwell’s property near Low, Quebec. I’m most used to racing on snowshoes out here, but any time of the year, this is a great place to get some of the lead out by pushing myself to the limits. This was my second trail race with 5 Peaks during this summer season, and I had my eyes on possibly trying for a podium finish. But then again, what else is new? If you’re not shooting for podium, you’re not really racing are you? Ha ha. Short of giving it all away, I’ll let you know I finished just off the podium. Unfortunately, the other unfortunate part of this race is that I have no pictures from the event, or even a custom map to share. So all you have to do is read the next few paragraphs to get a sense of the event.
Race Reports
Welcome back to another exciting chapter in the life of ActiveSteve. I’m especially excited to write up the story for the race that I just took part in last weekend. Specifically, I’m talking about the 2009 Frontier Adventure Challenge fall champs which took place at Rosseau Lake in the Muskoka region of Ontario. This is a great race to close off the adventure racing season for a lot of teams, and never fails to impress. The format is simple. 10-14 (or more) hours of gruelling off-road racing mixing orienteering, paddling, trekking, mountain biking, and sometimes swimming. This year’s edition of the race was another doozy with some interesting results, as you’ll learn about if you read my whole post. For starters though, you might want to check out my folder of pictures onflickr (I carried my camera on course), as well as the custom map that I put together of the route we took. If you look through the map, you’ll probably see a couple spots where we strayed from the ‘ideal’ route 🙂 Also, you’ll see it isn’t a complete map, as the battery died on my GPS. For the record, I did have permission from Geoff, the race director, to wear my GPS to make this map. I wasn’t using it as a navigation tool, merely a track recorder. Once you’re done checking that out, come on back and read the rest of the story.
Good day everyone! Well, a week has already passed, and I now realize that I haven’t written up a post about my most recent racing accomplishment. I’m sure by now some of you are getting bored reading all my race stories, but I feel a certain duty to write them up anyway. Think of them all as a snapshot in time for me,ActiveSteve . The most recent race was the Canadian half-iron distance triathlon that I raced here in Ottawa. It’s not the first time I’ve thrown my spandex in the ring for this one, and happily, I can report that I pulled off a personal best. Since that time, the weather has been absolutely magnificent here in the nation’s capital, so I’ve been more focused on being outside biking, running and hiking rather than typing away on my computer in the basement of the house. But without further ado, allow me to fill you in on race day and the results. I’ll try to keep it focused for you all, but no guarantees :-). For starters, you can check out the awesome pictures that Jody snapped of me on the course. You can also, as always, poke around on the race results to see it by the numbers. After your done with those, y’all come back now, and click the read link for more, okay?
Well how ’bout that folks? Another weekend, and another little race to keep the engine firing on all cylinders. My most recent exploit took place in Gatineau Parc at the Camp Fortune ski hill. I took part in the 5 Peaks trail Enduro Run, a 12km race up, down, and around the trails around the ski hill. I’m more used to riding these trails on my mountain bike, but that actually helped in the long run, as I knew what to expect, and where the trickiest parts were. I had a great result, and I’m pretty sure it was my fastest trail run to date. I didn’t have my camera with me, but you can at least check out some of the shots taken by Zoom Photo of the event (not yet indexed fully), and check out the map of the course that I made from my GPS. Once you’ve checked those out, come on back and read a few more paragraphs of exactly how it all went down for me.
Welcome to another installment of race reports over here at ActiveSteve.com. This story will feature another exciting tale about me trying my best to climb up a podium in a local triathlon. Don’t bother holding your breath, I didn’t make it up to the top step this time either, but I did have a great race, and felt pretty good about it. Remember, I’m doing it for fun, I don’t get paid, or get any type of perks no matter how well I do 🙂 So which race was it? Well, the 2009 National Capital Olympic Triathlon. Like the last race, it would be a 1.5km swim, followed by a 40km bike, capped off with a 10km run. Easy peasy, right? I’d actually raced this particular race in both 2005 and 2006. I raced it in 2007 as well, but that was in the Kayak tri category. The good news is that I managed to best my previous times, which keeps me motivated. For the full story, read on, but before you do so, why not check out the pics that my beautiful race photographer (Jody) took of me on the course.
