Trail Time Trial at Camp Fortune

Well how ’bout that folks? Another weekend, and another little race to keep the engine firing on all cylinders. My most recent exploit took place in Gatineau Parc at the Camp Fortune ski hill. I took part in the 5 Peaks trail Enduro Run, a 12km race up, down, and around the trails around the ski hill. I’m more used to riding these trails on my mountain bike, but that actually helped in the long run, as I knew what to expect, and where the trickiest parts were. I had a great result, and I’m pretty sure it was my fastest trail run to date. I didn’t have my camera with me, but you can at least check out some of the shots taken by Zoom Photo of the event (not yet indexed fully), and check out the map of the course that I made from my GPS. Once you’ve checked those out, come on back and read a few more paragraphs of exactly how it all went down for me.

Takin’ Rock n’ Roll Train to get Thunderstruck in Montreal

Well hello there inter-nauts! This is just another short little post to assure you all once again that there is more to ActiveSteve than just training and racing 🙂 Last weekend I was lucky enough to head to Montreal with some friends to catch AC/DC in concert at the Olympic Stadium. That’s right, as with most things ActiveSteve, it’s go big or go home. Why go to a little show here when I can catch the venerable rock legends from the land down under? I’ve never been a super-big fan or anything, but I knew that these guys would put on a kick-ass show. After all, any group that can last over 30 years and still be rocking hard well into their 50’s is worth seeing, right? Of course, as with all my blog posts, I invite you all to check out the pictures and videos that I took over the course of the weekend. Once you’ve had your fill, come on back and read the rest of my post.

Another Race, Another Personal Best!

Welcome to another installment of race reports over here at ActiveSteve.com. This story will feature another exciting tale about me trying my best to climb up a podium in a local triathlon. Don’t bother holding your breath, I didn’t make it up to the top step this time either, but I did have a great race, and felt pretty good about it. Remember, I’m doing it for fun, I don’t get paid, or get any type of perks no matter how well I do 🙂 So which race was it? Well, the 2009 National Capital Olympic Triathlon. Like the last race, it would be a 1.5km swim, followed by a 40km bike, capped off with a 10km run. Easy peasy, right? I’d actually raced this particular race in both 2005 and 2006. I raced it in 2007 as well, but that was in the Kayak tri category. The good news is that I managed to best my previous times, which keeps me motivated. For the full story, read on, but before you do so, why not check out the pics that my beautiful race photographer (Jody) took of me on the course.

Downtime Between Races

Hello everyone out there in the wide world of the inter-tubes. Just a quick little blog post to let you know what ActiveSteve does when he’s not out there trying to tear up a race course. Of course, the obvious answer is that when I’m not racing, I must be training. Well, while that is generally the case, I do try to have other things going on in my day-to-day life, and in particular I do try to involve my better half when possible. With that in mind, I’ll invite you to read a few paragraphs about a recent afternoon of hiking that Jody and I embarked on near the Lafleche Aerial Park. I didn’t actually map it all out this time, but I did manage to snap some shots that you may wish to check out. Once you’ve done that, click on back and read the rest of the story.
