Hey gang, well, as the title implies, for me at least, Christmas has more or less came and went. Jody and I decided to celebrate Christmas before she left for BC to spend time with her family. Yup, that’s right, Jonah and I will be bachelors over the Christmas break. Well, by break, I mean a couple days. I decided not to take any holidays this year, and am instead saving my pennies and time for when I might really need them. Hopefully it doesn’t mean I won’t be relaxing, but I’ll still be going in to the office to keep up with what’s gong on, and clean up my office for the new year. The last month or so has been pretty hectic for me it seems. Now, I strive on being busy, but I see I haven’t really posted much lately to keep everyone up to speed. So, I’ll try and rectify that a bit right now.
I’ll confess right off the bat that I’m a happy camper. When last I wrote, it was a bit doom and gloom, after being told to lay off the training. Luckily, after a couple physio sessions, and plenty of massage time, the story doesn’t seem so bleak. If anything, I’m working out more! I’ve shifted away some of my high-cardio workouts and substituted more strength training. This was at the behest of my physio lady (Megan) as well as my overall winter goals. After alot of contorting and pulling, the prognosis is that I’m really in pretty good condition. I have high flexibility, and lots of strong stabilizer muscles and balance. My weakness, literally is a weaker left leg than right, which was the source of my problems.
The result is that I must strengthen the leg more to handle the volume of training that I was doing. So lots of new exercises, many of them simple in nature, but very beneficial. I’m also doing a lot more core strength and stability training, which will help me for AR. So, what did last week look like for me? Well, here’s a quick rundown: 2x 1 hour massage sessions, 2x 1 hour physio sessions, 1x 1hour swimming session (~1.5-2k ), 1x 8km run, 2 spin session (1x 1 hour and 1 x 1.5 hours), as well as 2-3 strength training sessions of > 1hour. So, as you can see, I’m definitely staying active, but with the extra stuff, I haven’t had the time to blog, because, don’t forget, I’m working 2 jobs! And the second one was pretty busy last week, seeing me put in lots of night hours.
All that is simply to say that I’m looking forward to a little extra time over the break to both train, and hopefully maybe even play *gasp* video games! Hey, I’m still a kid, right? I miss the vids. And while Jody’s gone, it’s prime time for vids and beers. Any takers? Lemme know.
Well, the post seems to have gone on about my training stuff, where I meant it to be a Christmas post. Sorry. Once again, Jody spoiled me rotten, to the point that I’m sure I didn’t deserve it all. Amongst the haul were several bike-related things (socks, shorts, over-booties), and bar-related things, including a highly-prized bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Whiskey! Yum yum. I was also given the gift of knowledge with a few great books, including the two you see me holding above and to the right. These are guide books to cycling the North Island and South Island of New Zealand. Sweet. Guess that means Jody is still okay with my plans to do 6 months of cycling in NZ next year. That’s good, given that I have the tickets already! 😉
All in all, another great Christmas celebration at our place, with a great tree decked out, lots of great holiday music, and the requisite bottle of wine, cheese fondue, and delicious baked goodies. Boy, are we lucky people. Hug your family, and don’t forget to give thanks for all the good things you have. I’m not a religious man, but I definitely feel blessed! If you feel like checking out some of our Christmas pics, check out our folder on flickr. Till next time, here’s hoping you all have an equally relaxing and enjoyable family Christmas!
