Yup, as the picture suggests, I’ve now turned into one of ‘those’ people. I’m a pod person. I’m now the proud owner of a new toy, in the form of a 30 Gig, 5th generation video iPod. I came to own this little beauty in a spontaneous, roundabout kind of way. Last week, I showed up at work, and we were having a silent auction at lunch to raise funds for charity. There was quite a few unimpressive ‘prizes’ like logo’ed shirts from phone and broadcast companies, some dvds, cds, and sports tickets, but there was also this nice little iPod. Of course, I was well aware that it would fetch quite a few bids, and I wasn’t even convinced that I wanted it. In the end, I put in a bid of $250… and won! Overall, I’d say I did get a reasonable deal. They sell for $300+tax online and in stores, so I saved about $90.
Now, before you go thinking that I didn’t really want it, or that I’m not ‘deserving’, let me clarify. I’ve been humming and hawing about getting a new MP3 player for quite some time now. In preparation for my 6-month odyssey in New Zealand, I decided that I’d like to have a bigger MP3 player to keep me rocking for the entire way. I’ve looked at all sorts of options, since I wasn’t convinced I should join the cult of iPod. The point is, there really aren’t that many options for a larger capacity MP3 players. Those that do exist, are all the same price range as the iPod, and don’t have nearly the reputation that this player has. At the end of the day, the iPod works. And it works well. The interface, the software, the design; they’re all top notch on the iPod. I’m hoping that it serves me well for years to come!
In order to make sure that it does stand the test of time, I also bought a nice silicone case for it as well. There’s no sense spending all that money on a player, only to have it break on the first drop or with the first spill. The case is all black, and fully covers the player in rubber. I’m guessing that this will make my little player a little more road-worthy as it bounces around my handlebar bag for 6 months while I’m on the road. I’ve also started loading it up with my entire music library. I’m in the middle of ripping my 400+ CDs into MP3s, and it looks like I should be able to take most of that music with me. Sweet. Anyway, that’s really all I have to say right now about this little purchase. Now off to play with it 😉
